YOURSAY | Why Choong's betrayal cuts the deepest

This article is 4 years old

YOURSAY | It seems out of millions of M’sians, only he has the skills to ‘save’ us.

PM promised me post to help nation recover, reveals PKR defector

Annonymoussi: Tebrau MP Steven Choong, how can your conscience be clear when you betrayed the very people who supported you and put you in your current MP position?

How can your conscience be clear when you sell your soul for positions? How can your conscience be clear when you use your MP position to enrich yourself by ‘frogging’ for positions?

Clearly, you don't even have an iota of shame when after doing all these unethical things, you still say your conscience is clear.

This is the kind of talk that is always coming from all the frogs. They would never tell the people they are greedy for positions because positions bring wealth. Their narrative for fogging is they do it for the good of the people.

Voters must remember Choong and vote him out. He is a disgraceful political frog.

Ferdtan: “If I have the power, I can get all the ministries to sit down together and discuss the issues,” said Choong.

Likewise, if I have the power Choong, I would get all the people and the country to get down together and discuss ways to get rid of political frogs, making sure no more such people ever exist in this country. Can or not?

I have the feeling that Choong is apprehensive of something. Perhaps the offers/promises made to induce him to betray his party and Malaysians at large are not forthcoming.

Thus, this was his public statement and a kind of notification - that he is still waiting for his rewards that were promised.

Almost two weeks had passed since the defection and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is still silent about Choong’s position in the government.

It will be the best karma if Choong gets what he deserved - nothing. One betrayal begets another.

Maybe he should be appointed as the official bag-carrier to Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.

IndigoToucan1627: “He (Choong) added that his conscience is clear because his decision did not lead to the collapse of the government.”

But Choong forgot that his decision secured the position of an illegitimate government. Whatever he may say, the betrayal of the trust of the people is still a betrayal no matter how he wanted to justify it.

What a short-term outlook. He is a goner whether or not he will be appointed the Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate as the next general election will be called soon.

In addition, he said that before he defected, he consulted his family. The point is his election as MP is not by his family but by his constituents.

Iiiizzzziiii: Wow, this must be a first where a politician is trying to be a self-proclaimed saviour for the people experiencing hardship brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Either you embrace him or reject him for his boldness and originality. He is the only person, out of millions, in Malaysia who has the skillset to save the people.

I hope the prime minister will take good care of him because he is a national asset, Malaysia's first saviour specialising in Covid-19. And doing what exactly?

Gerard Lourdesamy: Zero principles and zero integrity. He should have defected in February 2020 itself. Why wait? Just to see if PN can survive first?

The excuse of SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) is a joke. SMEs would not be in the present situation if not for the political instability, economic mismanagement, and poor handling of the pandemic by the backdoor PN government.

Harimau_Arif: Every frog in the neighbourhood is having the same lame excuse of wanting to serve his/her constituency.

Choong is so noble that he even rejected a ministerial position, but he asked to be given a position so that he can help save the country’s SMEs.

The last I checked, that’s the function of the International Trade and Industry Ministry. If Choong is so capable, he should have asked for its minister Azmin Ali's position.

Eyes Wide Open: You are just a little MP from Tebrau, and you think you will be given a position to have a very high impact on the recovery of our country's economy? Please don't take the rakyat for fools.

Anyway, enjoy the rest of your term as an MP as you will be a one-term MP.

PinkCougar9549: There’s no need to convince us why you left PKR. We voted for a Pakatan Harapan candidate. It doesn’t matter if you are Ah Kow, Ali or Aru. It was a horrible mistake PKR chose you as the candidate for Tebrau.

We trusted you to represent us, but you sold us out and mortgaged your soul to an evil force for power and position.

We will finish you off in GE15 and forfeit your deposit. You betrayed us, and you will leave a rotten legacy for society and your family to remember.

How can PKR select such a candidate? The selection process and decision-making criteria require a revamp to ensure a quality candidate. The best is a candidate with a proven service track record who is mentally prepared to serve the rakyat.

We observe that candidates who gave up their current jobs/careers to contest are more vulnerable to defecting, especially after losing power. So obviously, these are not trustworthy candidates.

WhiteKite6010: You are still not answering the question of why you betrayed your voters.

Everyone faces difficult times during this pandemic, or even before the pandemic, but the bottom line is the hope of a brighter future that depends on voting in the right people to bring about changes.

It is not for you to walk out halfway and spew flimsy excuses to protect your own skin.

Gungadin: A total of 64,535 people voted for you because you stood for PKR’s principles. What are you going to say to them now?
