YOURSAY | The permutations for GE15 get even weirder

YOURSAY | ‘The opposition should form a new coalition consisting of parties that are not tainted.’

Opposition parties gang up on PKR, refuse to work with 'kleptocrats'

Another Clown: Many people would like to see PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim successfully court Umno Team 1 - Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's team. That will, however, spell Anwar’s demise sooner than we expect.

But what will then be the possible scenarios in the 15th general election (GE15)?

1. PKR-Umno Team 1 form a working partnership. They are bent on fighting Perikatan Nasional (PN). Some PKR representatives have said they will not jump ship but a PKR-Umno Team 1 partnership may be sufficient premise for them to change their minds. These PKR representatives will find this partnership repulsive and may hop off to some other party.

2. If the voices of these five key opposition leaders - Salahuddin Ayub (Amanah deputy president), Mohd Azis Jamman (Warisan Youth chief), Liew Chin Tong (DAP central committee member), Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Malaysian United Democratic Alliance pro tem leader) and Baru Bian (Parti Sarawak Bersatu member) - mean anything, Harapan will then disband. Amanah and DAP are likely to stick together and to their values and principles. Throw in some in Warisan and Pejuang, etc, and that's all they will have.

3. DAP may see some attrition. Remember the Perak DAP leaders who do not discount the possibility of working with Umno? Perak DAP chair Nga Kor Ming and his people may go against the wishes of the party’s national leadership, and Anwar can hope that some DAP representatives would make up for the PKR numbers that slip out. But this is still insufficient to form the government.

4. Bersatu-PAS-Umno Team 2 continues with their PN partnership. Despite the complaints against Bersatu, the Umno Team 2 has to find an anchor. So, with support of the Sarawakians, the PN partnership is most likely to continue as the ruling coalition.

Don't take my word for it. My take is only based on the look of things this far. And right now, even Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has no confidence that the wind is blowing favourably in his direction. His dreams may come true only if Anwar does a good job blowing the wind his way.

Manjit Bhatia: This is the right thing for the opposition parties to do - reject the lame opposition leader Anwar's spurious tactics of forever claiming, falsely or otherwise, that he has the numbers to take power from PN by sleeping with the enemy - Umno racists and bigots. Anwar has become desperately unscrupulous.

In opposing this, ipso facto, they are also rejecting Anwar. In my book, Anwar, already long in the tooth like former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and current premier Muhyiddin Yassin, should retire.

If Anwar stays as head of PKR, PKR is dead in the water. Anwar is not the right person to lead PKR out of its ever-growing morass and deepening crisis - both of which are the making of Anwar.

The longer this Anwar charade continues, the more PN entrenches itself in power the way Umno-BN did for decades before 2018. And it is already clear to me the opposition cannot win the next election.

It's a pity because Muhyiddin remains an illegitimate PM leading the country via an illegitimate PN regime.

It has scored so many failures on all critical fronts of the Malaysian political economy - from mismanaging the Covid-19 pandemic and vaccination to the rising tide of fundamentalist Islam and its promotion of racial hatred, religious bigotry and the demeaning of women, to the failure of ministers like Azmin Ali, Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz and Mustapa Mohamed in rebooting the severely broken economy.

All three are loafers: they haven't the slightest clue and basically are politically gutless to bring real structural reforms to the economy, as painful as these will be. If the economy isn't reformed, the old structural problems from the 1980s will stymie Malaysia's real potential for decades hereafter.

IndigoKite6964: Umno and PAS are the worst of Malaysian politics. PKR, Amanah and DAP are the only hope if we want a progressive country, and in my opinion, should be given a chance to rule.

However, I am forced to drop PKR from this line-up so long as Anwar is at the helm. His desire to be PM at all cost, by hook or by crook, and be in cohorts with crooks, cast a shadow over the integrity of the entire party.

Should PKR decide to join forces with either Umno or PAS or with any party affiliated with the two, PKR will no longer be my hope to rebuild Malaysia.

It’s a pity. There are many talented and upright politicians in the party. If they leap out of PKR and join Amanah or DAP, it would be good for them. Do I support frog politics? No. But if it is to flee a party that has gone off course, yes.

And by the look of it, PKR is about to run aground and sink if it ever invited Umno into the fold.

Purple Occa 8200: It's about time the opposition pack got united and insist Anwar to step aside, and bring PKR leaders such as Nurul Izzah Anwar and Rafizi Ramli back to the team.

Strengthen the coalition, set your vision and mission right. Plan your strategies to improve the economy, the unemployment situation, and many others. Prove it to the people, and you will stand a great chance to win GE15. And, once and for all, decide on the PM candidate.

Why would you want to mess around with kleptocrats, traitors, and unreliable goons, who will try to bring you down?

Headhunter: Yes, the opposition group should form a new coalition consisting of parties that are not tainted. Parties like Muda. There are a few parties in Sabah and Sarawak that are established but not a major force to be reckoned with on their own.

This is the best opportunity to make a difference because the rakyat are really fed up with all the shenanigans that have been going on.

The nation needs to go back to basics. We just can't wait anymore.

PKR leaders who don't agree with the current scenario in the party should make one of these two choices - dump the current leaders who refuse to evolve or form a new splinter like Amanah did with PAS and join the proposed coalition.

Savethenation: Umno is divided into so many factions. Each faction does not, in practice, represent Umno. Which faction is Anwar “I have the number” talking to?

Whichever faction he is talking to will bound to fail.

Anonymous_4030: So much for adequate numbers. The hard reality is that Anwar can't even muster the support of all opposition MPs, let alone "adequate" numbers to form government. Wake up, Harapan.
