PAC wants private market Sinovac price kept reasonable
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has recommended that Putrajaya place a ceiling price on the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine which will be available on the private market soon.
In a statement today, PAC chairperson Wong Kah Woh said the committee was of the view prices for the vaccine that have been touted so far are "high" but did not elaborate.
"(End-user) vaccination cost should be (kept) appropriate so that the rakyat will not be burdened," said Wong.
Government-controlled Pharmaniaga Bhd will be selling 14 million doses of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine from next month.
The Special Committee on Access Guarantee to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) is expected to announce an end-user price next week.
Wong said the PAC today heard submissions on related matters from Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
Tomorrow, the PAC will hear from Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz and from Health Minister Dr Adham Baba the following week.
