This article is 3 years old

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 22,070 new Covid-19 cases today.

The Klang Valley recorded just above 7,000 fresh infections.

In Sabah, more than 3,000 cases were detected for the fourth day in a row, while the state also reported significantly more deaths than before.

Overall, eight states and territories had infections in the four digits.

Meanwhile, Perlis hit a record high in the number of cases.

  • Active cases: 265,695
  • Patients in ICUs: 982
  • Intubated: 470

A total of 153,854 people have undergone Covid-19 testing in the 24 hours up to noon today, yielding an unofficial test positivity rate of 14.34 percent. The average for the past 14 days was 14.19 percent.

The high number suggests a significant degree of under-testing, so the actual number of cases is likely much higher than what was reported.

The test positivity rate has exceeded 10 percent for 38 consecutive days.

Deaths

There were 339 Covid-19 fatalities reported today, bringing the death toll to 15,550. This included the 78 deaths today of those who had no history of chronic illness.

This is the second consecutive day where daily death numbers exceeded 300, after yesterday's record-setting 393 deaths. The number has exceeded 300 on four occasions including this one.

Most of the deaths were reported in Selangor (103), followed by Sabah (41; new record), Kuala Lumpur (40), Penang (38; new record), Johor (37), Kedah (20), Perak (15), Negeri Sembilan (13), Kelantan (8), Pahang (8), Malacca (6), Terengganu (5) Sarawak (3), and Perlis (2).

Ninety-nine of the deceased had died before being brought to a hospital, mostly in Kuala Lumpur (33), Sabah (17), and Selangor (16).

Notably, the 41 deaths in Sabah were significantly higher than its previous record of 28 deaths on Aug 12.
