Covid-19 (Oct 24): 5,666 new cases

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 5,666 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,431,716.

The fresh infections comprised 5,463 Malaysians (96.4 percent) and 203 non-citizens (3.6 percent).

They were surpassed by a total of 6,978 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

  • Patients in ICU: 601
  • Intubated: 299

The number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 12.6 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 14.1 percent from a week ago.

Nationally, the number of hospital admissions in the last seven days have declined by 11.9 percent compared to the preceding week.

Beginning Oct 9, the ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Oct 23), where 5,828 new cases were reported, is as follows:

Clusters

Some 539 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including three new clusters reported today.

The ongoing clusters have fallen by 20.3 percent from the 676 active clusters a week ago.

The three new ones comprised a workplace cluster, high-risk group cluster and community cluster respectively.
