Covid-19 (Nov 8): 4,543 cases, uptick in T'ganu hospitalisation

This article is 3 years old

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 4,543 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,510,852.

The fresh infections were surpassed by a total of 7,348 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

  • Patients in ICU: 534
  • Intubated: 263

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 6.2 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 12.6 percent from a week ago.

The R-naught for the country as of yesterday was 0.92. An R-naught of less than 1.00 suggests that the spread of Covid-19 was decelerating.

The only region where the R-naught is more than 1.00 is Putrajaya which recorded 437 new cases over the past 14 days.

Nationally, the number of hospital admissions in the last seven days have declined by 9.5 percent compared to the preceding week.

However, hospital admissions in some states are on the rise, particularly in Negeri Sembilan (+17.2 percent) and Terengganu (+11.9 percent).

Terengganu is the only region in the country which has seen a significant rise in hospitalisation of Covid-19 patients in the past month [see hospitalisation chart below]. This state has the second highest Covid-19 ICU bed usage (79 percent) in the country.

Beginning Oct 9, the Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.
