This article is 3 years old

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today announced that 6,243 new Covid-19 cases have been detected over the past 24 hours ending noon today.

For the second consecutive day, the number of new cases exceed the number of Covid-19 patients who recovered, which totalled 5,068. This is expected to contribute to a rise in the number of active cases.

This is the highest number of new daily cases since Oct 28.

  • Patients in ICU: 543
  • Intubated: 279

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 0.5 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 2.4 percent from a week ago.

As of yesterday, the R-naught figure has been steadily rising to 0.96. As long as the R-naught stays below 1.00, the spread of Covid-19 is considered to be decelerating.

The R-naught has breached 1.00 in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya.

Daily hospitalisation of Covid-19 patients is down 6 percent this week compared to the previous week. However, hospitalisation is up marginally in Pahang and Johor.
