Covid-19 (Nov 13): 5,809 cases, hospitalisation starts rising
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 5,809 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,541,147.
The number of new cases today outpaced recoveries (4,712), which will lead to an increase in active cases for the fifth day in a row.
- Patients in ICU: 527
- Intubated: 27
Nationally, the trend of hospital admissions which had been declining for weeks reversed, increasing by 2.95 percent in the last seven days compared to the preceding week.
The rise was largely contributed by Kuala Lumpur (+85 percent), Malacca (+41.2 percent), Negeri Sembilan (+20.4 percent), Perak (+16.4 percent) and Johor (+12 percent) during the said period.
The infectivity rate, or R-naught value, has also increased to 1.04, the first time the figure had gone above 1.0 since August 31.
A sustained value of above 1.0 will lead to an exponential spread of the virus. A value of under 1.0 indicates the spread of the virus is slowing
Beginning Oct 9, the Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.
