Covid-19 (Jan 1): 3,386 cases, infectivity rate at 0.98

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 3,386 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,761,472.

The infectivity rate inched up towards 0.98 as of yesterday from 0.88 on Dec 25 but remains below the 1.0 threshold.

The value must be kept under 1.0 to prevent exponential growth in fresh infections.

The number of fresh infections y were surpassed by a total of 3,547 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

  • Patients in ICU: 273
  • Intubated: 159

Nationally, the number of hospital admissions of confirmed Covid-19 patients in the last seven days have declined by 4.4 percent compared to the preceding week.


The Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Dec 31, 2021), where 3,573 new cases were reported, is as follow:
