Covid-19 (March 1): 78 new fatalities, 25,854 new cases

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 25,854 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 3,468,590.

Active cases currently stood at 293,652, up 44.9 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Negeri Sembilan (1,808)

Johor (1,767)

Kuala Lumpur (1,751)

Kelantan (1,518)

Perak (1,288)

Another 78 deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which 34 were declared as 'brought in dead'.

This is the highest number since Oct 28, 2021, when 95 fatalities were reported.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 992 deaths per 1 million population, and fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

Over the past week, an average of 56.3 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 28.7, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 32,827 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

The state with the highest number of deaths was Johor (21) followed by Kedah (15), Selangor (13), Perak (9), Sabah (6), Pulau Pinang (5), Kelantan (2), Melaka (2), Terengganu (2), Negeri Sembilan (1), Pahang (1) and Kuala Lumpur (1), .

There are 7,542 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised, of which 374 are in intensive care.
