S'gor sultan as religious council head in line with recommendation

The election of Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah as the chairperson of the National Council of Islamic Religious Affairs for a period of two years at the 258th meeting of the Conference of Rulers is in line with the recommendation of the Islamic Affairs Supreme Committee at the federal level.

In a statement today, Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Syed Danial Syed Ahmad said the committee then chaired by the late Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid was of the view that since Islam is under the jurisdiction and discretion of the Malay rulers it was more appropriate for the council to be chaired by a state ruler.
