Covid-19 (March 13): 22,535 new cases, 87 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 22,535 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 3,823,571.

Active cases currently stood at 320,877, up 9.5 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to the states are as follows:

Another 87 deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which 25 were declared as 'brought in dead'.

Over the past week, an average of 82.7 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 56.9, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 33,807 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 1,058 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 771 deaths last month and 491 deaths in January.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 997 deaths per 1 million population, and fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

The state with the highest death cases was Johor (22), followed by Selangor (18), Perak (10), Penang (6), Kuala Lumpur (6), Pahang (5), Kedah (4), Kelantan (4), Malacca (3), Negeri Sembilan (3), Terengganu (3), Sarawak (2) and Sabah (1).

There are 8,704 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised, of whom 384 are in intensive care.
