YOURSAY | Bersatu shows true colours in demanding DPM’s post

YOURSAY | ‘What is the urgency for Bersatu to demand the DPM's post?’

DPM post was part of PN-Ismail Sabri deal: Wan Saiful

Vgeorgemy: Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan is now admitting that it is the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between Perikatan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan that has given the present government political stability.

Bersatu’s claim to the deputy prime minister's post is to disrupt the government for Perikatan Nasional (PN) and to stay relevant.

It should be clear by now that the Malay-Muslim unity has nothing to do with the toppling of Harapan but everything to do with individual enrichment and satisfying the greed for power.

Siva1967: Wan Saiful, first and foremost, for Bersatu to ask or demand a ministerial post at this juncture only goes to show that Bersatu does not care for the plight of the people but that of their interest.

Anyway, this is not surprising, since all politicians post-Sheraton Move have only demonstrated that and nothing else.

What is the urgency for Bersatu to demand the deputy prime minister's post? What would this "new" deputy prime minister contribute to the nation besides getting an additional allowance? And let me remind you, that allowance comes from the taxpayers' pockets.

You could have gained some respect if you demanded that Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob reduce the number of ministers and deputy ministers in his cabinet.

The entire country is suffering due to price increases, the high cost of living, poor management of the economy and so on. Instead, you are pushing for the DPM's post.

If you are standing on the fact that there was an agreement with the prime minister and that, as a man of honour, he should abide by it, let me ask you: where is your honour when you and your party went against the people's mandate (which in mine and many other people's minds is an agreement of sorts)?

Where is your honour when you promised to fight corruption but then form a backdoor government with the party whose key leaders are facing criminal trials for corruption?

Meerkat: Go ahead and fight, Bersatu. Ismail Sabri won't call an early election. He can't. But then, he may be forced to.

Bersatu won't get their wish. So, do they dare to pull out and speed up their demise? In other words, it's a dog's breakfast. Nobody knows what to do. Everybody hopes it will blow over.

That's why the country is in such a mess. Meanwhile, the gatekeepers are trying to help themselves as much as they can. PN and BN must never be re-elected back into power.

Freethinker: The country is struggling with its financial challenges, and people are struggling to put food on the table. But politicians are struggling for positions, more allowances and perks.

The rakyat are told to eat fewer eggs, plant vegetables and rear chickens. Most businesses are cutting down on costs, and are streamlining and increasing productivity.

Meanwhile, our already bloated civil service seems to be getting bigger while doing less.

BlueShark1548: Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi, wasn’t it because of Umno's arrangement with Bersatu that Ismail Sabri from Umno is prime minister? It was the top post and yet you said Umno was not after positions.

What about other cabinet posts for Umno and BN members? Umno got most of what it wanted, so stop telling stories about Umno not being power crazy. No one believes you.

Why are Umno leaders pressing Ismail Sabri to dissolve Parliament and hold elections? They openly said that now is the best time as Umno could win.

Did Umno think of the nation and rakyat? Umno wanted the general election early before Umno elections and before the court delivers its decision on Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's case.

Why? 2023 is just six months away. Why can't Umno wait?

Anonymous9483: I looked back at the comments from Malaysiakini readers during the period of Harapan’s 22-month rule. Back then, Wan Saiful could do no wrong. Every statement that he made as the PTPTN (National Education Fund) chairperson was lauded.

Whenever some readers who exercised critical thinking offered contrary opinions, the bulk of Malaysiakini readers moved in full force to condemn such views.

Look at how the tables have turned. Now, Wan Saiful can do no right. Malaysiakini readers never fail to amuse me with their hypocrisy, which is a by-product of their blind support of Harapan.

I can't wait to see the day when Malaysiakini readers turn the tables on 'messiahs' like PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman or Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar.

YellowRusa5552: Since there are four senior ministers, why not just rename them deputy prime minister 1 right up to deputy prime minister 4.

This way, Bersatu not only has one but two deputy prime ministers! All of them can keep their respective portfolios with no increase in pay or allowance. Everyone will be happy, both Bersatu and Umno.

Koel: It looks like deals are being done in backrooms without the people's consent by dishonourable men.

It’s funny how people with no honour or integrity and who have stabbed the nation in its back dare to expect honour from others.

There is no honour among thieves. Please don't try to foist more misfits onto the nation.
