Covid-19 (Aug 2): 4,204 new cases, 8 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 4,204 new daily Covid-19 cases yesterday

Active cases - now 44,278 - is on a five-day downtrend.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Perak (237)
Penang (172)
Kedah (168)
Negeri Sembilan (167)
Sarawak (112)
Putrajaya (106)
Kelantan (90)
Johor (82)
Malacca (80)

Labuan (10)

Another eight deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which two were declared as "brought in dead".

Deaths were reported in Malacca (2), Negeri Sembilan (2), Sabah (2), Selangor (1) and Terengganu (1).

Over the past week, an average of 7.6 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 7.0, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,985 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There are 1,537 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 56 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (113) followed by Johor (85) and Sabah (80).
