Covid-19 (Aug 27): 2,491 new cases, 5 new deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 2,491 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,774,003.

Active cases currently stood at 34,508, down 20.5 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Perak (211)

Negeri Sembilan (157)

Sarawak (115)

Malacca (109)

Penang (100)

Pahang (80)

Kedah (78)

Johor (71)

Putrajaya (61)

Kelantan (57)

Another five deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which one was declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 8.6 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 8.3, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 36,196 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

The deaths were in Selangor (2), Kuala Lumpur (2) and Sarawak (1).

There are 1,324 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised, of which 72 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (101), followed by Sabah (69) and Johor (46).
