Covid-19 (Dec 2): 2,421 new cases, 9 deaths

The Health Ministry said 2,421 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,996,964.

Active cases stood at 24,053, down 11.4 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Another nine deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which three were declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 8.6 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 7.5, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on an uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 36,704 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

The states with the highest deaths were Kedah and Perak with three each, followed by Johor, Pahang, and Selangor, with one each.

There are 1,698 Covid-19 patients hospitalised of which 97 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (127) followed by Sabah (66) and Perak (55).
