Covid-19 (Jan 16): 227 new cases, 6 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 227 new daily Covid-19 cases yesterday.

Active cases currently stood at 10,331, down 12.2 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (69)
Kuala Lumpur (33)
Johor (18)
Perak (16)
Kedah (15)
Sarawak (14)
Kelantan (13)
Malacca (13)
Terengganu (10)
Sabah (8)
Negeri Sembilan (7)
Penang (4)
Putrajaya (4)
Pahang (3)

Another 6 deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which 2 were declared as "brought in dead".

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 36,914 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 61 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 169 deaths last month and 209 deaths in November.

There are 457 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 21 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Sabah (60) followed by Selangor (41) and Kedah (17).
