YOURSAY | Sanusi’s hide-and-seek game with the police
YOURSAY | ‘He is a theatrical publicity seeker who deliberately created a drama.’
Sanusi: I was in contact with police, I just didn't want to be arrested
Vijay47: You just don’t know enough when to get out of the rain, do you, caretaker Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor?
For whatever it was worth following your dawn encounter with the police, you did seem to have earned some support from the more misguided regions of Kedah, but with your true-to-self loose mouth, you had burned your ship lock, stock, anchor, and all.
Your latest statement reflects the desperate, confused pleadings of a politician very aware that the future does not shine bright for you.
Rainy days of such fury lie in store that will see the final nails driven into the rapidly depleting hope you might bear for continuing in any form of government.
What a gymnastic two-pronged request from you! You wanted only to be spared the humiliation of arrest lest it is seen as evidence that “I had committed an offence”.
Whoa! Who are you to choose the time and place of your arrest?
Perhaps you hold that you are entitled to such privileges because you were once the menteri besar with a deep-sea diving brother living in a palace.
The whole purpose of arrest is because the police believe that you have indeed committed an offence!
Why should they by declining to collar you assist in any defence you might later want to offer from the dock?
Now you allege that there is a plot against an innocent you who have committed no offence? Then what was the apology to His Highness the Selangor sultan all about?
I just love this part - “please don’t arrest me tonight, I will appear at Selayang court tomorrow morning and any further investigations can be done afterward.”
How generous of you that you did not ask for deferment of the arrest until the grandchildren you might have had all graduated from university.
I think the police have been too kind to you. Earlier, they visited you at your hotel to get a statement and during the arrest visit, they waited until you had a shower.
Heck! They even allowed you to have a coffee! “Kurang manis”, it must have been.
BrownCheetah9736: He is a theatrical publicity seeker who deliberately created a drama. The bottom line is, he knew he was going to be arrested and charged in court.
Why play hide and seek with the police? Other politicians who knew what was coming contacted the police and went to the station to surrender themselves to the process on their own accord without any incident, drama, or theatrics.
He has no respect for any of the institutions. I don’t care if Pakatan Harapan loses votes because of this, but this guy is a danger to our society and must be put in jail
Unspin: This is the standard operating procedure to record his statement first before charging him in court.
If not, he may get away with a technicality. Based on his admission, it is obvious that he was given a chance to present himself at the police station to have his statement recorded.
However, he did not want to because he, quote, “did not want to be arrested because it will give the narrative that I have committed an offence”.
Although it appeared harsh to arrest him at 3am, in hindsight, it is the right thing to do.
Otherwise, it would set a precedent for any criminal to give the same excuse to resist arrest.
JW: How did Sanusi expect he would be arrested? That the police would send a chauffeured car to his residence at his convenience, picking the time he preferred and maybe having some snacks and drinks along the way.
Will there be the full red-carpet rollout as he steps out of the car and walks towards the courtroom with all the police maintaining a respectful distance walking just the red carpet?
It was not enough for him that he was not handcuffed.
Kawak: Sanusi is a coward after all when facing the police. He did not want to be arrested. He spinned again giving reasons for his cowardly act.
He is a very brave “warrior” with his supporters surrounding him.
The discretion to arrest or not to arrest him lies with the police. Offences under the Sedition Act are seizable.
The police can arrest a suspect without any warrant at any time. Was Sanusi ignorant or scared?
Coward: Even former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak had to stay with police until he was charged. Who is Sanusi to think he can avoid it?
If the police allowed it, it would have been a double standard.
It's his failure to comply with SOP that got the raid justified. He did it to himself.
The more he opened his mouth the clearer the confirmation that this man thinks that he is above the rest of us and he has a special privilege.
IndigoToucan1627: Sanusi had committed an offence and that is why the police were after him.
The police had already given him a lot of face by waiting for him while he showered and had coffee before they took him away. What more could he expect? Wait for him while he catches up on his sleep since it was 3am?
5562: Now do you understand the pain of getting arrested? The old man felt the same when he was arrested for criticising you! This is a good and painful lesson. Learn from it.
