YOURSAY | Someone else should be finance minister

YOURSAY | ’One year on the job proves Anwar is incapable of multitasking.’

Anwar best person to lead Finance Ministry – Rafizi

Bobby0: Maybe it is true that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim may be the best choice to lead the Finance Ministry.

Yet, one year on, his record shows that too much time has been spent travelling. He also spends too much time getting involved in a war that is of no concern to us.

Billions of ringgit have been diverted to agencies that do not bring any monetary returns and pay for battleships that are riddled with scandals.

Will a finance minister who perfectly knows the financial situation make such decisions?

He seems to be interested in issues that are politically motivated to be in his favour and not the nation.

As for the economy and the talk about billions of investments secured, can it all be exposed to the public by the names of companies that have already started their business?

If not, the figures look like they have been plucked out of the air.

As for the economy doing better, you have to give credit to the hard-working Malaysians who are doing their best to survive. No thanks to the government.

Their sacrifice to put in all their efforts, and with their business connections all over the world, have made it possible.

So stop trying to get all the credit. The credit is due to the people.

With the currencies fluctuating every day, those involved in all forms of enterprises have managed to survive and revive the economy.

All this is being done while the prime minister, who is also the finance minister, is travelling across the globe at the people's expense.

Thunderbolt: Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, very frankly speaking, none of the present ministers in the cabinet is qualified to be the finance minister. Not even you.

Our best salvation is external professionals, Malaysians of course. Now is not the time to talk about race or rewarding “kaki bodek” (which to our great disappointment your boss Anwar is blatantly doing).

Malaysia is on life support economically, let’s do what is right to save our country.

People are suffering from the rising cost of living, depreciating ringgit, job losses and many more. Please stop “bodeking” (brown-nosing) your boss as if he is God’s gift to salvage our economy and country. He’s not.

And it’s a huge disappointment to all of us who voted for him and your party. Maybe he’s good for saving the Palestinians but not his fellow Malaysians.

He should maybe relocate to Gaza as it will not make a difference to us in Malaysia with or without his presence and his leadership.

PMB: Rafizi quotes a lot of figures economists and analysts don't usually use.

His list of achievements fails to indicate that any government taking over at the time his great leader Anwar took over would have achieved the same because the country is just picking up after the pandemic.

Anwar can't lead. He just talks a lot and is yet to deliver to his voters.

He is busy appeasing those who didn't vote for him and keeps running away from the country to foreign destinations to sign billion-ringgit deals we are yet to see any sign of.

His cabinet is as competent as their leader and frankly no different from previous governments even performance-wise.

Instead of defending an incapable leader, Rafizi should prove that he is worthy of the public office he was appointed to. Stop being defensive. Just perform well.

Andersonian: I'm sure that Anwar would also agree that the prime minister and finance minister should be helmed by two different people.

The finance minister should be an honest and competent person who knows where the lines are drawn - standard finance practices regarding contracts, payments and documentation.

They also need to be savvy in information and communication technology to improve efficiency and automate processes.

For now, maybe separation can't work due to the political climate and just too many “sakau” (stealing) going around.

I assume for now Anwar thinks he is the right person for the finance minister post as he has assumed it.

All political parties should groom one candidate for such a post.

BlueFish0451: Anwar had spent too many years defending himself in court and then in jail.

After that, it was all politics for him, fighting to win the general election and become prime minister.

The one leader who did the work for former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak in the Finance Ministry and has always been at the centre of business and economy in the country is Titiwangsa MP Johari Abdul Ghani.

So far, he has not been tainted by any scandal. Anwar should recruit him as a finance minister II. We all have only 24 hours a day.

Anwar is not a magician who can handle the two most important ministries in the country under such a volatile condition. Malaysians deserve better.

Nadanx641: One year is enough time to prove that Anwar is not a multitasking sort of man.

Besides limited knowledge in many fields, his leadership is also questionable. He may be an expert in Islamic studies and public relations.

He couldn't even resolve many internal disputes among members of PKR, let alone a national crisis.

I strongly agree with everyone that he should reassign the finance minister's post to another who is more capable.

Kajang Ada AirCon and Starbucks: Najib, when he was the prime minister, was the best person to be the finance minister.

Before him, the then-prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was also the best person to head the Finance Ministry.

History has taught Rafizi nothing. As a chartered accountant, his lack of understanding of what constitutes a conflict of interest is astounding.

He should be proposing a parliamentary bill to prevent future 1MDB and a host of other financial shenanigans instead of trying to curry favour with his boss.

RedMarlin1833: Anwar is the prime minister, finance minister, in charge of the Federal Territories, Tambun MP and PKR’s head honcho. How can he concentrate?

Why can’t it be an economist who knows the in and out of the financial know-how of a country or some other expert in this related field?

I forgot that he is a man with “many faces”. I guess he could do it!

BrownPigeon9878: Anwar has to relinquish the finance minister role or risk further damaging his reputation and the Madani mandate!

Hubris needs to be swept aside, he needs to be the bigger person and lead instead of cosplaying a statesman.
