50 police reports lodged, Teresa grilled

A staggering 50 police reports have been lodged against DAP vice-chairperson Teresa Kok over her remarks concerning the halal certification proposal.

And, according to Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain, the investigation papers would be sent to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) within 48 hours.

The Seputeh MP was summoned to the Bukit Aman police headquarters for her statement to be recorded on Tuesday morning.

Although Razarudin had classified it as a 3R case, DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng, who accompanied Kok, disagreed.

He argued that a parliamentarian should be accorded the space to raise the concerns of her constituents.

After meeting the police, Kok, who has denied insulting Islam, said she did not have time to raise her concerns through the internal channels as suggested by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

‘Hari ini saya menang, besok…’

A radio show featuring Khairy Jamaluddin has sent ripples through the airwaves following accusations that the former Umno leader had lampooned Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Some even called on listeners to boycott the popular Malay-language station HotFM.

This was after a clip posted on TikTok showed Khairy quipping that if he won Berita Harian’s upcoming “Anugerah Bintang Popular” award, he would treat everyone to a meal.

“Saudara-saudara, hari ini saya menang, besok kita makan ramai-ramai (ladies and gentlemen, if I win today, tomorrow, we will have a feast tomorrow),” the former minister said amid laughter.

After a brief exchange with the hosts, Khairy stated “saya ulang… (I repeat)” before bursting into chuckles again.

Although he did not mention the prime minister, the choice of words, tone and the manner in which it was delivered was compared to Anwar’s often repeated promise in the past - “Hari ini saya menang, esok harga minyak turun (If I win today, petrol prices will be reduced tomorrow).”

Royalty-linked project: Minister points to state

Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said issues regarding forest reserves fall under the purview of state governments.

He was responding to a question about a Terengganu royalty-linked project to develop an oil palm plantation in parts of the Belara forest reserve, located in the Kuala Nerus district.

Nik Nazmi said his ministry operates at the national level, but specific decisions are undertaken by state governments where forests are situated.

“But we will obviously monitor it closely and continue to communicate with the state government about the implications of whatever decision they take.

“If it involves any forest reserves, including our commitment to maintain Malaysian sustainable palm oil standards and sustainable forest management,” he added.

Last week, Malaysiakini reported that the project had sparked environmental concerns as well as potential flooding and effects on water supply during droughts.
