YOURSAY | Speed up probe into alleged sexual assault at hospital

YOURSAY | ‘What do you expect to find in the medical report?’

Dzulkefly pledges to probe sexual assault claim in Sabah hospital

Authorities accused of inaction in sexual assault claim against medical staff

Vijay47: Dear Ms Patient, I can fully understand the anguish you must have gone through.

Firstly, to have a medical problem itself and secondly, suffering the demeaning abuse allegedly made by the attending medical assistant.

For a speedier response from the authorities, you might want to write to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim himself for his intervention in the matter.

But you have to understand that investigations can often be “time-consuming”, as discovered by that unfortunate Grab rider.

Solo: A 32-year-old woman goes for a nerve conduction test on the left arm. This probably means a test for carpal tunnel syndrome.

A person treating her will only need access to the left hand and forearm. There is no need to touch the right shoulder, legs, or thighs.

That is groping under a false pretext. You also don’t need to touch or comment on a person’s underwear.

The victim was smart to complain to many authorities if one of them was sloppy.

Koel: For goodness’ sake, step up and do something. First, a doctor commits suicide due to extreme bullying. No action to date.

Now we hear that the Health Ministry has done nothing about allegations against a sexual abuse perpetrator.

Was this fellow suspended while investigations are ongoing or are you allowing him to continue sexually assaulting women?

What is wrong with this ministry? How many times is this health minister going to talk about action only to disappear into silence?

How many times are we going to hear about Sabah’s problems? What is this minister afraid of? Be decisive and show some courage.

Doc: So far, the Health Ministry and this current health minister’s enquiries, probes, and task forces into a doctor's death have not come to fruition yet.

I hope this sexual assault probe will also not take aeons.

IndigoCat9464: Police have questioned the suspect.

He was released on police bail. They have been waiting for the medical report for further action since July 5.

In Boleh Land, everything is possible!

Lone_star: Yes, one has to hound those in charge until something is done.

A female chaperone is needed when a male staff is examining a female patient.

Remember deaf e-hailing driver Ong Ing Keong’s case and its outcome?

Keep on hounding the authorities to take action.

Libra: Why do these harassers do it? Because nothing happens afterwards. Then it becomes habitual, subconsciously doing it unless the authorities alerted or become aware - like the complaint.

The clowns saying that they cannot make it public means a lot, it means they won’t do anything to correct it.

The culture must change. Know that a wrong is a wrong. Not acting on it is wrong as well. So, what to do?

Act and see that the mistake is corrected immediately, and keep a record for such cases so others who come on will know.

MarioT: Sexual harassment and inappropriate touching of women occur quite often in workplaces but are not reported.

Only a few dare to speak about it and demand action.

The victim expects some kind of help and sympathy but is treated as though it is unimportant.

The police should have trained personnel to handle sexual-related cases and offer some assurances that the cases will be handled with expediency.

Normally, if it is reported to the department head, he or she might see it as trivial and not worth pursuing.

Thus, the tormented victim is told not to make a fuss and asked to forget about it.

It is a perennial problem that needs a concerted effort by everyone to ensure the protection of female employees.

Proper guidelines for seeking help when a staff is sexually harassed must be available at all workplaces.

Mechi: Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad is good at his job, but the hospital director, Dr William Gotulis must be reprimanded for being slow to take action and that gives his hospital a bad image.

Something is very wrong here.

HOPE LESS: What do you expect to find in the medical report? Virus or fungus? Stupidity has its limits. This is a straight-cut molesting case.

BlueLynx2013: Well, not easy for the victim to speak up in such situations, yet no action when they do. What an embarrassment. We seem to have more time to complain about Zionists.
